Chapter 270 Late Exhaustion

Lei Zhen was never the type to care about other people's feelings, but in that locker room, he could feel his safety was being endangered for every second he stayed there.

The jealousy could be smelled throughout the locker room, and he was sure that a few of them were furious at him.

'Rumors sure spread like wildfire when it's about something terrible or juicy gossip.' Lei Zhen thought to himself.

If it wasn't Samantha who recommended him and some old men instead, then he was confident that not a single man inside the locker room would care much.

The most they would do was probably give him a side glance and that was it.

Shaking his head slightly, Lei Zhen walked to Samantha's office to begin his first day at work in the hospital.

The feeling he was getting now was quite hilarious. Back then, he came to the hospital to watch over his sister, but now he was coming here to take care of other patients.

"Doctor Samantha, I'm here." Lei Zhen knocked on her office and said. Now that they are at the hospital, Lei Zhen had to refer to her as Doctor Samantha instead of just Samantha.

Not only was it professional, but it was also a safe way for Lei Zhen to avoid unnecessary attention if other doctors realized he could call Samantha by her first name in such a friendly manner.

"Come in, Assistant Lei Zhen."

Hearing that, Lei Zhen opened the door and saw Samantha working on her computer with a solemn look, void of any playfulness.

Seeing the solemn expression and that she was busy typing something on the computer without glancing at him, Lei Zhen calmly took a seat without saying anything else.

The room was completely quiet until Samantha finished typing and take a glance at Lei Zhen.

"I'm sure you know the procedure already, so are you ready to take the ward around?" She then asked.

Taking the ward around basically meant going around the hospital room, checking up on the patients, and discussing the solution to cure them or how many dosages the patients should receive.

Lei Zhen nodded his head.

"I have done that numerous times already." He said, letting her know that he wasn't some basic trainee with zero knowledge of what to do when they just got out of college.

Samantha also knew that but was asking out of formality only. After all, patients are a human's life and not something you can just make a mistake anywhere.

"Good, today I'll have about three new basic trainees coming fresh out from their college to monitor and you're going to be assisting me with them." Samantha stood up and said, grabbing her white coat.

Meanwhile, Lei Zhen was already having a headache when he imagined assisting her with three basic trainees.

Trainees are just a nicer term to address these new medical students. In fact, trainees are no different than ignorant people that have zero clue on what to do in any emergency or diagnosis on the patient itself.

In other words, trainees are just a bunch of useless souls that need to be babysat around enough to not kill the patients.

"Can I go to work tomorrow instead?" Lei Zhen suddenly asked, clearly not looking forward to babysitting a bunch of trainees.

"I don't know, Lei Zhen. Do you wish to make me mad or not? The choice is yours." Samantha replied, exiting the office without saying anything else afterward.

It was clear that Lei Zhen indeed had the option to work tomorrow instead. However, the consequences of doing so would have been unimaginable.

'No wonder why she cooked such a hefty breakfast today. It was to prepare for this moment.' Lei Zhen cursed inwardly.

He had thought that today's breakfast was so immaculate, but it was just a set-up. A ploy to deceive him into eating his fill for the energy to train the basic trainees.

Without a choice, Lei Zhen could only follow Samantha as they made their way to the ward area.

Sometime later, Samantha was notified by a nurse that the three basic trainees are already waiting in the lobby for them.

"Doctor Samantha, the three basic trainees are gathered in the lobby."

"Okay, thank you, nurse," Samantha nodded her head. She then opened her tablet and saw the details of the trainees.

Surprisingly, all three of them were females who graduated from the prestigious college that required a tuition fee of at least 500 grand yearly.

Lei Zhen also twitched his mouth when he saw the information through her tablet.

No wonder why these basic trainees are lucky enough to be under Samantha when she is always busy. These trainees are practically born with a golden spoon and receive the best education. Not to mention, their background should be quite deep to have this arrangement possible.

"Three females, Lily, Grace, and Amanda, all aged 24 and got the best grades in their college. Though who knows if these grades truly reflect their actions today." Samantha muttered, seemingly not surprised at this.

"Well, good luck to you, Lei Zhen. You're going to be the person scolding them today. I'm still a bit exhausted from the grind I did in Magnolia."

"But that was like two days ago…"

"Ever heard of the late exhaustion? It doesn't happen right away, but only after a few days does that exhaustion come at you."

Lei Zhen twitched his brows, clearly unable to fathom the fake excuse she could come up with on the spot. There is no such thing as late exhaustion, but there is such a thing called pushing the work to their subordinate.

And currently, he was the subordinate whereas she's the boss. Hence, her words are final and he could only swallow them without being able to complain much.

"I'm calling it an abuse." Lei Zhen grumbled coldly.

"Even if I do abuse you, what are you going to do about it, big boy?" Samantha suddenly leaned close to his ears and whispered like the devil's voice, causing Lei Zhen's body to shiver temporarily.

"Anyway, stop grumbling, and let's start. Patients are waiting for us to treat them." She then said, walking ahead to the lobby to pick up the three female trainees.

Sometime later, Samantha walked toward the lobby and noticed three females chatting with each other, most likely to improve their relationship since they would be working quite closely now.

Naturally, the three females similarly noticed Samantha's arrival as they put on solemn expressions and greeted her.

"Greetings Doctor Samantha," They all said simultaneously in respect.

Samantha nodded her head, glancing at each one of them to get a closer look.

"So you're Lily, right?"

"Yes, Doctor Samantha," Lily responded swiftly. She had long blonde hair and a slender figure along with a natural-beauty face. Except her nails were quite long and seemed to be polished in a purple-ish color.

"Make sure to not apply those nail polishes when working in the hospital anymore. Nail polish contains chemicals and could affect patients. Also, long nails could easily pierce the gloves that you will wear when helping patients to do an injection. If you want to look pretty, then do it after work." Samantha reprimanded, wasting no time to point out their attire and make-up.

After reprimanding Lily, Samantha went over to inspect Grace.

Grace had shoulder-length, dark hair that she kept neatly pulled back in a sleek bun, and didn't have much make-up on her face. And she was anxious when Samantha kept staring at her.

"Your appearance is alright, but your expression and behavior need to be improved. How could you get anxious easily when I'm just staring at you? If patients are to see you acting nervous, then that wouldn't do them good, would it?" Samantha pointed out her flaw.

"I-I understand, Doctor Samantha," Grace replied nervously and bowed her head slightly.

Samantha didn't bother to say much and walked toward Amanda, glancing her up and down.

Amanda had short brown hair and a sharp chin with crystal clear eyes. She exuded a confident aura and was dressed appropriately without any nail polishes on her nail or heavy chemical makeup.

"Appearance is decent with light make-up and has a more confident attitude than Grace. However, having confidence is one thing, and being confident is another thing. Skills and improvisation are extremely important in the hospital because anything can happen here. If you stumble or make a mistake, then that could mean the patient's life is gone." Samantha commented.

"I'll keep that in my mind, Doctor Samantha," Amanda responded, not showing an inch of fear.

With that all said and done, Samantha then began to introduce Lei Zhen to the female trainees.

"This person here is Lei Zhen and my assistant. If you have any doubts or troubles later on, then you can consult him. He might not have an actual license, but his skills and knowledge are tutored by me." Samantha said calmly.

The introduction didn't last long as Samantha then began to walk toward the ward, officially beginning the actual training for these females.

'Sigh, why do I miss Magnolia suddenly? Why did I decide to work when I should be playing?' Lei Zhen cried inwardly.
